Building a clothing brand sounds simple from the outside — design a T-shirt, find a supplier, and start selling. But the reality is very different, especially when you are trying to build a long-term brand for the Singapore oversize tee market.
At THEWHITELABEL, we started like most small brands: sourcing from suppliers in China, testing samples, and slowly building our collection of oversized T-shirts, hoodies, shorts, and more. At first, everything looked promising. The samples were good, the pricing was workable, and we were excited to bring our designs to life.
But as we scaled, we began to face a very real challenge — inconsistency.
The problem with supplier inconsistency
One of the biggest issues we experienced was that our China supplier was not always stable in quality. Some batches of our oversize tees came out perfect — good fabric weight, clean stitching, and a great oversized fit.
But other batches were not the same.
Sometimes the stitching was slightly off. Sometimes the fabric felt different. Sometimes the fit wasn’t as sharp as before. For a brand trying to build trust in the Singapore oversize tee market, this kind of inconsistency is a serious problem.
Customers don’t compare your product to your previous batch. They compare it to their expectation.
And that expectation is simple: it must feel premium every single time.
Why we decided to go back to China
Instead of ignoring the issue or switching randomly between suppliers, we made a decision — to go back to China ourselves and handle sourcing properly.
Not just relying on messages or samples.
We are going to:
- Re-source our suppliers directly
- Visit and compare different manufacturers
- Test multiple fabric options in person
- Improve stitching and finishing standards
- Standardise our oversized tee fit across all batches
This is not just about finding “a supplier.” It’s about building a consistent production system that can support a real streetwear brand in Singapore.

We are not trying to be the cheapest brand.

There are moments where things don’t go as planned, but those moments are exactly why we are improving.

We are currently in the process of improving our supply chain so that every Singapore oversize tee you receive from THEWHITELABEL meets a higher and more consistent standard.
